No one will know your identity, not even the University of Colorado Denver researchers administering the survey. Parents/Caregivers of 7th Grade Students Attending La Junta Jr./Sr. High School:
As you know from daily news stories, suicide rates have been steadily increasing among adolescents. A recent study showed that from 2007 to 2015, suicide rates doubled among teen girls and rose by more than 30% among teen boys.
The counseling department at LJHS will be sharing an evidence-based suicide prevention program with 7th grade students on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 during their Life Skills class. Rayann Remick, school counselor, will be presenting the Signs of Suicide (SOS) program. SOS is a one class period presentation that helps students recognize the warning signs and symptoms of depression and suicide in themselves or their friends, and also teaches them how to get help. These presentations can be previewed at
https://sossignsofsuicide.org/parent.
Parent letters and informational papers can be picked up at Parent and Teacher Engagement tonight from 4:30-8pm and tomorrow 8am-12pm.
Please feel free to contact Ms. Remick with questions about these programs.
