East Otero School District (La Junta Public Schools) is a school system of 1,350 students, 102 certified teachers, 8 administrators and 61 support staff.  The staff is dedicated to continuous improvement of themselves and students.  The district is home to two elementary schools (one primary grade center for K-2 and one intermediate grade center for grades 3-6), and one junior/senior high school. 


Students have access to award-winning music, art, vocational, band and drama programs.  Extended day and summer school are also offered.  The La Junta High School Football Team were 2A State Champions in 2016, with a 13-0 winning record.  The district has a rich academic tradition, focuses on student achievement, along with depth and breadth of curriculum offerings and extracurricular activities such as Knowledge Bowl, Match Wits Team and athletic teams. 


East Otero School District is proud of the diversity of its student population which is 65% Hispanic, 31% White and 4% Other.  Fiscal Year 2017 – 2018 is the first year that East Otero School District has qualified for the free lunch program district wide.


East Otero School District recently received the Best Grant for expansion/renovation of the Primary School with construction beginning in 2018.
