Procedures for Emergency School Closure

Announcements of school closings due to emergency situations or bad weather will be made at the earliest possible time on the local radio station, district’s website at www.lajuntaschools.org, along with an emergency phone notification.

Two Hour Delay

When necessary, East Otero School District will implement a two-hour delay procedure. In this instance, school will begin at 10:00 a.m. Administration will notify the La Junta radio station by 6:00 a.m. on the day school closing is in question. Please tune your radio to 92.1 FM or 1400 AM to hear the announcement or check the district’s website. If school is placed on a two-hour delay, the buses will pick up students two hours later. The students will be at school by 10:00 a.m. No breakfast will be served on that day. Parents will need to continue listening to the radio or look at district’s website to check on the status of the two-hour delay. If the weather or roads do not improve by 9:00 a.m., the school district will again notify the radio station, website, and emergency phone notification if school will be cancelled for the entire day.
